Driving the news: Ocasio-Cortez told ABC's This Week on Sunday she hasn't 'ruled out the possibility' of running for president in 2028. She called the support she has received 'tremendous' and said she was 'very humbled.'

By the numbers: A Granite State Poll from the University of New Hampshire Survey Center shows Ocasio-Cortez at 22% among likely Democratic primary voters. Former Transportation Secretary Buttigieg trails at 21%. Her support is up seven points since February. Gov. Newsom dropped seven points in the same period. Former Vice President Harris fell five.

Between the lines: Ocasio-Cortez tried to redirect attention. 'I think that we have a responsibility to remain focused on the midterms and not on our individual aspirations or plans,' she said. The pivot didn't land — the 2028 chatter only got louder.

What's next: The 2026 midterms will test whether her brand of democratic socialism can move beyond safe blue districts.

The bottom line: The Democratic Party's progressive wing is consolidating early around Ocasio-Cortez. For a party searching for direction after 2024, that is a telling signal. A nominee built on higher taxes, expanded government and identity politics would hand free-market conservatives the clearest contrast in a generation.
